Meliza
After the winning of a great war, it is a Yisraem tradition for the King to take a new wife. We consider it the growth of our nation. The King’s taking of a new wife symbolizes the continuing journey of our people. It has been three weeks and there is no indication of the King’s choosing of a bride. If he had chosen me our family would have received a royal visit to invite us to dinner with King JoLe and Queen Iza.
Who could be the woman that has taken the King’s eyes from me? There is only one option. Once I am of proper attire, I will leave to have tea. I have invited a village girl by the name of Piya to an outing at the villages teatime dining. Don’t get me wrong, there are many pretty girls, but they don’t know what to do with beauty. She is the only girl that matches me in beauty and class. However, she is not cunning as I am. As I walk down to meet with Piya every man and woman stares, as they should. Beauty has that effect.
Walking in I see Piya is already here. “Hi Meliza, I hope you don’t mind I purchased tea for the both of us.” Before I could answer her I kind of got caught off guard. Her beauty matched mine and it angered me in a way. Especially since the King has yet to choose a second wife. Um, no I don’t mind. Thank you, Piya. I am sure that you are a busy woman as I am but after the war, I realized how distant some of the ladies are here in Yisraem. Which is why I wanted to meet with you. Thinking we should get to know one another.
“I often think the same. It is so thoughtful of you MeLiza to think of me.” For a moment I was dazed off because as Piya spoke I couldn’t help but think how gullible she is. What makes her think I would want to get to know her. I have many lady friends here in Yisraem and I don’t think a girl like Piya could serve me very well. What is a friend if they are not of good service to you? Therefore, Piya could never. After she is done talking, I jump right into my interrogation of what little Ms. Piya has been up to.
Piya, women of our standards usually marry very well. I am sure that you have at least a few suitors interested. What holds you back from marrying? “Well, MeLiza there is a fellow who is courting me, but I am not sure if he is ready to marry.” After hearing Piya say she is being courted by a man who is unsure, I quickly realize this could not be the King she speaks of.
When the King chooses a wife the process is different. There is no courting. The woman knows nothing of it until she is chosen. On that note in my mind this outing is over. I wait a few more minutes and then start my exit strategy. Piya, this outing was nice. We should do this again, but I have duties to attend and really must go. “Okay, Meliza. I thought we would have more time to chat, but I understand.”
