Irik
After hearing the news of King JoLe choosing Ariah as a new wife, I am deciding to go to duties today to see how she is doing. As I prepare my horse ‘West’ for the journey I can’t help but wonder how King JoLe came to his decision. Don’t get me wrong, I guess Ariah is attractive. Though I never really looked at her in that type of way. What I find most confusing is how did he come to that decision with such a beautiful, elegant woman like Meliza living as a sister would to the woman he chose.
Additionally, Ariah is a good friend of mine and as great as her life can be married to King JoLe, I am not so sure it is what she wants. Once I arrived at the duties check point; immediately I noticed Ariah had signed out early. Therefore, I head over to her home. Upon arrival, Mr. Aveitu is in his field tending to some crop. Like a proper gentleman, I am sure to speak to Ariah’s Uncle ‘Aveitu’ before requesting the presence of a woman in his home.
Hello Mr. Aveitu, my apologies if I have disturbed your tending to the crops but I am here to request an audience with Ariah if that might be possible this Afternoon? “Irik? Is that you, looking like King JoLe’s right hand man. Give me a hug man I missed you around here.” Mr. Aveitu’s reaction surprised me in a good way. He has known me since I was a young boy so I guess it should be expected that he is proud of my accomplishments.
We embraced and laughed, then Mr. Aveitu gives me permission to meet with Ariah. Waiting on Ariah to come down to the sitting area of their home I look around at how beautiful their family has made their home. Catching me unaware I hear Ariah’s voice asking me, have I heard the news. “Irik are you listening?” Hello Ariah, I am listening. This revelation is why I am here to see how are you? “Honestly, I am not sure how I feel. Would you like something to quench you from the journey?” Sure, I will take a glass of water if you will.
While Ariah is preparing a glass of water I can’t help but notice how nervous and out of place she seems. So, I ask her again. Ariah? How are you feeling? Be honest with me. “If I am honest, this is Meliza’s dream not mine. What’s worse, is I know those words should never be uttered when a woman is asked to marry a king. Myself and King JoLe seem to be so different and I never noticed him noticing me. Irik, I feel out of place. If I could put it plainly.”
My advice to you, is trust your King and soon to be husband. King JoLe is a wise man who would not make a foolish decision when choosing a wife. You are a smart responsible young woman. Who wouldn’t notice you? You are such a distinct person. For a moment we both look at each other and burst into laughter. “Irik, what do you mean by distinct person?”
Jokingly, I tell her Well you know just a little different than most. As we both sit there laughing I don’t know why but I start to notice Ariah has a beautiful smile. For a quick moment I felt an attraction to Ariah who I have only ever seen as a friend. Quickly, I realize this is Ariah my friend and not a woman of my interest. “Irik you always know how to make situations better.
At least I can look forward to having you, who is one of my greatest friends nearby. Who would have thought you would be King JoLe’s right hand man whilst I am wife to the King. I guess it really is fated for me and you to always be great friends.” Of course, I had to make sure that you feel my support of your well-being. Anyways as nice as this is chatting with you, I have to be going. We embrace as two people with a long friendship ahead and I head out.
