Ariah Attends The Speech
While already feeling kind of awkward walking in I can feel the eyes of the goody two shoes on me. Low and behold, no surprise to me Melizah is right on time and looking as if it is the day of her wedding. “Hello people of Yisraem.” Everyone quiets as King JoLe starts to speak. He is wearing a gold hat of the finest fabric which matches his smooth skin perfectly. With his shirt being of a white silk and gold and brown coverings which matched the pants.

“We are at war and have been at war with the people of Hyiseng for over two decades. We are a people of morals, values, and high integrity. The people of Hyiseng have been able to buy out or take from other villages but they cannot and will not buy or take from us. What they fail to realize is that here every man woman and child is one family. We don’t attack or use the weak and needy which is why I can stand here as your King and feel honored. The people of Hyiseng have never encountered a people of our stature before or since us.
Our forefathers built this village from nothing. Many of us are used to hard work. We raise our children to understand what struggle is while teaching them how to survive and grow. The people of Hyiseng have everything yet they want, what is ours. They wonder why they don’t feel the many riches lining their walls when they compare their riches to the spirits of truth that live here in Yisraem. We are a people of strength and integrity.
Our great men of war guard our gates day and night; I will protect my people. I will protect the pride and tradition of my people. We will not be raped of the spiritual attributes we were blessed with, which guards us and makes our enemies shiver in envy. We can not be bought for a price.”

King JoLe has only taken one wife, his entire 7 years of reigning on the throne. My aspiration is to be his second and best wife. I am 18 and now considered a woman. Women of my beauty and class must marry well. My parents run the Brick-and-Mortar house making our family close to the King. Therefore, I lack understanding of why he has taken no interest in me. His father, the King before him, had 12 wives. All well taken care of.
King JoLe is thirty and five years of age and the eldest boy of 16 children. While finishing up my nighttime beauty rest routine I wonder about these things. Yes, I have great beauty, but I also consider myself to have great wisdom. In addition, I am responsible when it comes to finishing every assignment assigned to me. My favorite saying is a smart woman never gets her hands dirty, that’s what I have ALiar oops I meant to say Ariah for.
Speaking of Ariah, I just heard her come in through the back door. I wonder where she was. O hi Ariah, how was your day today? Now let me place plugs in my ear while she rambles about what a humanitarian she is. “My day was okay, I am surprised to hear you have interest in knowing.” As Ariah talks, all I hear is blah blah blah and think to myself, how many cows did you rescue, how many kids did you stop from getting stomped on by horses. You know the usual.
Sometimes I feel like I am the only one who notices how much she brags on herself. I am the only reason she receives any kind of respect in this village. Fuma and Chofi left our village when Ariah was just a baby. While away they taught her to be unkept. Why is it all on me to carry the image of this family for this generation. I wonder if Ariah looking as a poor girl’s image is destroying my chances with the King. I must find away to disassociate myself from her. Nighty nighty I go, beauty rest calls.
