Meliza
For the first time in a long time, I will be going to morning duties. Last night’s dinner at King JoLe’s stay gave me the closure needed to accept his decision. I could always wait around until we won another great war to be a third wife. Except, knowing that Ariah is also one of King JoLe’s wives leaves me needing my own space to grow. Who really wants to share a spouse with a little cousin or sister? Now I must find my own path since King JoLe has made his decision.
My destiny before was to be wife of King JoLe, now I have to focus my attention on a new life. Since everything unfolded, I have received marriage proposals from very well sought after suitors. I guess everyone expected King JoLe’s pick to be me. Especially because of his relationship with my parents. Nevertheless, I have taken in some of my fathers words of encouragement and decided to focus on my inner self. While walking I take a look at some of the others in passing also on their way to duties and realize I may be a bit overdressed.
Upon arrival I see Ms. Corla assigning duties. “Hi Meliza, it is nice to see you decided to come to duties this morning. Not to worry you will fit in perfectly. You will receive the best duties for a lady of stature. As long as you do not get involved with those who like to gossip. Not to pry, but we have all heard the news of King JoLe choosing that Ariah girl as his second wife. It makes me wonder did he get a sort of brain damage during the great war. It is my understanding that she is your cousin an orphan or such.
[As Ms. Corla goes on and on I just kind of follow her to my assigned duty.] Your cousin what’s her name ‘Ariah’ I believe it is, was a thorn in my side. She even told Irik that it was me who pushed Misses Sweela and Old Man Solo to quit. Of course, those two ‘as sweet as they are’ were problems so they vouched for her tales causing me to have to do things differently here. They are both back working their duties, so it is my advice to you to keep your distance if you want to enjoy your duties assignment. Now the duty assigned to you is making sure that everyone assigned the care of all cows, horses, sheep and goat are doing as they should.”
Thank you, Ms. Corla, for being ever so kind to me in my assignment. I will not disappoint. As Ms. Corla leaves, I can finally breathe from being suffocated with her word vomit. Though a lady like myself knows how to take advantage of advantages given to me. In no time, I will be running this place. It is time I put my skills of being well liked, feared, and respected to good use. While Ms. Corla worries about silencing the cries of the common people, I will be soon to take over. Afterall everyone here has always loved me.
